New free dingbat font for die cutters

May 24, 2009 at 2:37 pm 415 comments

I am proud to introduce 09 KutUps, a shapes font made especially for SCAL, MTC, Silhouette Studio and other cutting software that can cut truetype fonts. From the ground up this font was designed with diecutting in mind. Every shape has been optimized for cutting and even the font name and configuration have been chosen to make it easy to use with diecutting software.

I have been the recipient of much generosity recently. For example, in 2008 I spent a month’s worth of nights in the Ronald McDonald House near where my son was hospitalized. If you enjoy using this font, I hope you will be generous the next time this fine organization asks for your support. Download the font here. View/download the character map here. 09KutUps is free for personal and commercial use, but may not be sold or shared without my permission. Please also do me the courtesy of directing others to this blog post rather than to the link. And of course, I would love to hear your comments.

7/24/09 Update: This font has become very popular, and many of you have told me that you have honored my request that you make a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities in return. Thank you so very much. My son had to be admitted to a hospital in another distant town for the last 2 weeks. Once again the Ronald McDonald House there provided support for our family.

5/11/13 Update: This font has been downloaded tens of thousands of times and I am overwhelmed by your response to it and your willingness to honor my request. I have eliminated the mediafire link that had gotten too aggressive and switched over completely to which should be a simpler download. My son has been off treatment for 3 years and  has graduated from college and gotten married. I will forever be grateful to the Ronald McDonald House for being there is our darkest days. Thank you for your continued support!

    • 115. Kay  |  June 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm

To smunoz and others that are having trouble downloading, please try again. Mediafire hiccups sometimes and also, you have to make sure you click in the right place. Hundreds of people have successfully downloaded these fonts, but not all of them in the first try :)

      • 116. Doreen  |  June 4, 2009 at 4:34 pm

Thanks for responding. Is there another place to download besides clicking on “here”? I have tried the font, charater chart and the inkscape template and get the same 404 error. I have tried about 20 times over the last 3 days, maybe it’s just my computer and I just have to stay away from mediafire.
        Thank you!

  • 117. Tammy  |  June 4, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Thank you for sharing these. I know they will come in handy.

  • 118. pjay  |  June 5, 2009 at 7:14 am

tried to download this font loads of times but looks like it has been moved or deleted

    • 119. Kay  |  June 6, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I am happy to report that the font is still there and being successfully downloaded by hundreds of people daily. Make sure you are clicking the right links and that you haven’t already downloaded it to a default location without realizing it.

  • 120. Heather  |  June 7, 2009 at 8:10 pm

  • 122. Al  |  June 8, 2009 at 3:03 am

    Hi there,

THANK YOU so very much for the most generous share. I too have donated to Ronald McDonald House and continue to, as I have a little niece with Spina Bifida and she was fortunate enough when she was very little to have an operation in Melb., and her parents stayed at RM House.

When I load the TTF into my “fonts” folder on my PC where all my other fonts are stored, I see all my other fonts on SCAL but don’t see the Kutups font? Is there a special place to install it to?

Any advice you have would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you …. Al

  • 123. Anita Hiltz  |  June 8, 2009 at 10:21 am

  • 196. Beverly  |  September 11, 2009 at 12:05 am

Thank you so much for making/sharing this file. For those of you having trouble downloading it, keep trying, I finally figured it out. The file you actually download is on the left side of the screen, you don’t have to sign up for anything.

I saved it to a SVG file I made to download SVG files for sure cuts alot software.

I opened sure cuts a lot and tried to import it, not here. I couldn’t find it, oh maybe it’s in my fonts, so I refreshed the fonts, still couldn’t find it. Went to the fonts folder on my computer, there it was, but still couldn’t import it there. SOOO…

I ended up right clicking on the font in the fonts folder and clicking on install. When I opened sure cuts a lot again, it was there!!!

    Hope this helps someone.
    Thanks again for the file!

    AWESOME FONT.. thank you..
I try to do one random act of kindness at least once a week.. sometimes when I drive thru a fast food place, I’ll pay for the next person and tell the cashier to let them know to pass on the kindness sometime in the future.. Its not much, but I believe it comes back to me someway…

  • 203. Launi  |  September 19, 2009 at 11:00 am

Ok, I can’t figure out what to click on to download this font. Can anyone be more specific? Thanks

    • 204. Kay  |  September 19, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Click on the first link (the word “here”) in the paragraph below the images, then what you see at mediafire will depend on your browser and pop-up settings but you are looking for the link on the right hand side of the page that says “click here to begin download”. If you get an error at mediafire, try again later. Sometimes they get overloaded.

SO many applications are already in my head. It is very generous of you to allow the file download at no profit to yourself. I will definitely donate to Ronald McDonald House.

Just wondering if there is a way to copy an image (like one of the screenshots on a Cricut Cartridge and maybe paste it in paint to only select the image you want. Then clean it up enough in Inkscape to possible cut it out in either SCAL OR MTC! I have both programs. If anyone knows how to do this – or knows of a tutorial of how to do it – could you please email me?

I went online to figure out how to use it in my SCAL program (yes, I have been putting off using this program for a very long time) I typed in the letter b and the scallop circle was perfect. I set it to 4.25 inches and it cut perfectly. I think you should change your name from clever someday to “clever all the time” LOL Have a good one.

To do this simply measure the hight and width of the stamped image and type those measurements into the properties box of scal. I used an oval scallop from the free font 09 Kutups by Clever Someday. […]

I recommend to others, DO NOT download and open this application to get this font! NO font, but definately a VIRUS!!

    • 351. Kay  |  May 11, 2013 at 11:05 am

You should never download or open an application when you are trying to download a font, and I am sorry you clicked a wrong button somewhere. My font has been downloaded successfully tens of thousands of times, but just to prevent any problems I had already deleted the mediafire link and switched over to before your comment. Thanks for allowing me to point out to my readers that you should only download a .zip, .ttf, or .otf file if it is a font you are after. Do not ever download an .exe!

My daughter was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma Stage 3) in December of 2013. After multiple surgeries between December and the end of February she is now cancer free. She goes to the oncologist next week and then will have a PetScan to determine if the Melanoma has moved elsewhere. She is still on the road to recovery and will be for long time.

Your son and family are in my prayers.

    • 414. dormarpor  |  October 17, 2015 at 10:08 am

How can these 09 KutUps be inserted in the Silhouette Cameo v3 library? please.

      • 415. Kay  |  October 17, 2015 at 4:01 pm

As of V3, fonts can no longer be installed directly into Silhouette Studio. You need to install them on your computer instead, where they will be available to all of your programs, including Silhouette Studio when you re-open it. If you do not know how to install fonts, check your computer’s help files as it varies slightly by operating system.
