SCAL and MTC both get major updates

Craftedge released on update of SureCutsALot that brings Mac users up to parity with their Windows counterparts and also adds such features as text on a path, open path cutting and line styles.

Make the Cut also released version 2.2.0 which features a rebuild of the interface, layers capability the ability to cut to a number of other cutters besides the Cricut through a full color print function. This version of Make the Cut also features the long promised and somewhat controversial feature that allows owners of Cricut Design Studio to back up the images in the carts they own to SVG files.

My comparison chart has been updated. Get the PDF version here.

Thanks for posting about this! I am on the edge of purchasing one of the programs, and just can’t make up my mind. I have a few questions for you…

    – Do you have to have something in addition to Inkscape to have your Cricut cut out any of your TrueType fonts?

-I see that Make the Cut has the introductory price of $70 but full retail is $130. Does the introductory price have an expiration date?

-Are you allowed to be biased and tell us which program you prefer?

    Thanks in advance! :) Jen

      Jen,
You do not need Inkscape, but you do need either SureCutsaLot or Make the Cut to cut true type fonts.
I am not sure when the introductory price ends on MTC, but I wouldn’t expect it to be any time soon. In fact, the $130 price isn’t on the website anymore so I should probably fix the chart to reflect that. I like and use both programs, and my slight bias towards SCAL is only because I am a Mac fanatic and appreciate having a native version.

      DeShonda,
MTC can save as SVG, and then that can be imported and cut with SCAL2. There is not a way to do it without going through MTC first.
